TO

viene tradotto principalmente come “a”, indicando il movimento verso un luogo determinato. Può assumere anche il significato “verso”.

Jamie and I went to the movies yersterday. Play

Cami was walking to her house when she heard someone crying. Play

THROUGH

John walks through the woods to get to school. Play

ACROSS

Sammie walked across the street to the coffee house. Play

How long is the walk across the Golden Gate Bridge? Play

ATTENZIONE!

OVER

The thieves jumped over the wall while they were running from the police. Play

We live near the airport. There are always airplanes flying over our house. Play

UNDER

Traducibile con “sotto”, “al di sotto”.

Jane’s apartment is right under mine. Play

Katy’s family goes camping every month. They love sleeping under the stars. Play

I’m from Jamaica, but my family moved to the States when I was two years old. Play

ALONG

Può essere tradotto con “lungo”.

I used to often take walks along that river. (Andavo spesso a fare delle passeggiate lungo quel fiume.) Would you like to go running along the shore?

The police officer walked around the block to make sure everything is fine. Play

My father is always travelling around the world for his job. Play

ATTENZIONE!

UP

Corrisponde all’italiano “su”.

Is the elevator going up or down? Play

Tommy’s like a monkey – he’s always climbing up trees! Play

DOWN

OFF

OUT OF

--- PER APPROFONDIRE L’ARGOMENTO ---

a lot of sites say that around and round are the same, but there can be a difference, especially in UK. If someone says "they were running around", it implies the movement is erratic.

For example: Children tend to run around at school.

In UK when we use "round" we imply a more definite purpose and a more circular movement.

For example: The athlete ran round the track.
